You don't have to have a crippling fear of the dark to want to use your T.V. as a nightlight. There are plenty of cabins on a ship that don't come with windows. So, the televisions on most cruise ships can be used as a sort of nightlight that will also let you know when it's morning. All you need to do is turn it to the bridge cam station.
Turn the T.V. volume all the way down, and you now have a nightlight that also ensures you don't oversleep in your windowless room. It's not as great as a real window, but it works.
